Colorado's House GOP Reps. Elevate Concerns of CO County Commissioners Over SNAP, Call for Clean CR

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Gabe Evans (CO-08) was joined by Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (CO-04), Congressman Jeff Crank (CO-05) and Congressman Jeff Hurd (CO-03) in sending a letter to Minority Leader Chuck Schumer highlighting the concerns of county commissioners in their district over the looming lapse in SNAP benefits and demanding the Senate pass the clean CR.

"These commissioners are pleading with you and your colleagues - including Sens. Hickenlooper and Bennet - to put politics aside and pass the clean CR to avert a SNAP crisis. With SNAP primarily administered at the county level, these commissioners are on the front lines, seeing the direct impacts of this shutdown on their community. Every day since October 1st, they've heard firsthand from worried mothers with hungry children about their fear of not being able to access their benefits, jeopardizing their ability to put food on the table next month."- Reps. Evans, Boebert, Crank and Hurd

This week, 36 commissioners representing 17 different counties and nearly 2 million Coloradans signed onto an open letterto the United States Senate, urging them to pass the clean CR approved by the House of Representatives on September 19th. They cited their concerns over the upcoming expiration of SNAP benefits in November and the needs of their constituents.

Reps. Evans, Boebert, Crank and Hurd sent their own letter to Minority Leader Schumer echoing the concerns of these commissioners and imploring Sen. Schumer to work with his fellow Senate Democrats to support the clean CR and reopen the government as fast as possible.
