KL Avenue reopening at US-131 today in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - After three years of lane closures and detours, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and contractor Davis Construction Inc. have completed the three-year, $24 million investment to replace the US-131 bridges over KL Avenue and the Amtrak railroad in Kalamazoo County.

Work to rebuild KL Avenue has been completed, including building retaining walls and a shared-use path. The road is being reopened today.

The US-131 bridges were rebuilt in 2025, with some single-lane closures this year for slope restoration.
