On March 6th, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the first Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Leaders' Meeting, the launching ceremony for the project titled "Mekong-Lancang Program in Science and Technology: Phase 2 - Advancing Close Collaboration among Universities" supported by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund was held in Nay Pyi Taw. More than 100 guests attended the event, including Ma Jia, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, Zheng Zhihong, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, Dr. Aung Zeya, Myanmar's Deputy Minister for Science and Technology, and Aung Kyaw Moe, Vice Chair of the LMC National Coordination Unit (Myanmar). Additionally, the heads of Mandalay Technological University and Kunming University of Science and Technology were present.
Ma Jia stated that universities across the six Lancang-Mekong countries have conducted productive explorations in areas including talent training, infrastructure development, and livelihood improvement. China will continue to support the universities in the Lancang-Mekong region in conducting multi-field cooperation, facilitate the further growth and development of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation mechanism, and pool strength to help the countries in the region jointly embark on the path of modernization.
The Myanmar side expressed gratitude for China's support, noting that the project will deepen scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation among universities in the Lancang-Mekong countries through joint research, exchanges and discussions, and other approaches. It is expected that the project's outcomes will play a crucial role in boosting scientific and technological innovation across the Lancang-Mekong countries.
