Congresswoman Ross Statement on Republican Redistricting Plan
Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) released the following statement on North Carolina Republicans passing a new Congressional map through the General Assembly:
"At the behest of Donald Trump, North Carolina Republicans are silencing voters by creating Congressional districts that do not represent North Carolina's citizens.
"They are taking us back decades to a time when Black Americans in Eastern North Carolina did not have fair representation in Congress or an equal say in their government. This gerrymander is nothing less than a shameless attack on the voting rights that generations of Black Americans marched and fought and died for.
"We cannot allow power-hungry politicians to rig elections and choose their own voters. We will fight this egregious power-grab in the courts and the people of our state will hold Republicans accountable for their actions next November."
