Sulphur - On January 23, 2025, shortly before 1:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 27 just north of Louisiana Highway 379 (Houston River Road). The crash claimed the life of 50-year-old Walter Clinton of Leesville.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by Clinton, was traveling south on LA Hwy 27. At the same time, a 2018 Dodge Charger was traveling north on LA Hwy 27. For reasons still under investigation, the Harley-Davidson crossed the center line and entered the northbound travel lane, striking the Dodge head-on.
Clinton, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash, received fatal injuries and died at the scene. The occupants of the Dodge were all properly restrained and only the driver received minor injuries.
Standard toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation.
