The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department will host a number of events throughout the month of May, beginning on Friday, May 1, with the start of boat rental season at local lakes.
The following are highlights of the upcoming month's offerings:
Boat Rentals
May 1 through October 31 | Lake Brandt, Lake Higgins, Lake Townsend | Ages 9+
Explore City lakes and take part in water activities by renting kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and sailboats. For more information visit the City of Greensboro website.
Stroller Rollers
First Fridays, May through October | Downtown Greenway, Woven Works Park, 401 Cumberland St. | 10:30-11:30 am | Free
Join Greensboro Parks and Recreation on the first Friday of the month with your kiddos in strollers for a walk (and roll) along the Downtown Greenway. Meet new people and explore the downtown area as we venture out from LoFi Park. Plan to walk for one to two miles roundtrip, including a stop at family-friendly play spaces along the way. Consider arriving early to enjoy our First Friday Storytime from 10-10:30 am.
Run Up On Me
Wednesdays, May 6, 13, 20, 27 | Country Park, 3905 Nathanael Greene Dr. | 6-7:30 pm | Free
Walkers and runners can come together for exercise and fun while enjoying Country Park and its amenities.
When Life & Sports Connect
Wednesday, May 6 | Glenwood Recreation Center, 2010 Coliseum Blvd. | 6:30-7:30 pm | Free
For women and young girls who play sports, have played or are a passionate student of the game. We welcome you to a sports talk that is built upon connection, experience and vision and highlights the way sports intersect with everyday life. This programs aims to foster collaboration, mentorship, and networking.
Warnersville Southside Reunion
Saturday, May 9 | Warnersville Recreation Center, 601 Doak St. | noon to 5 pm | Free
The Warnersville Southside Reunion is an annual community festival to celebrate and recognize those in the past and present who help shape the Warnersville/Southside community.
The Plants and the Planted - Green Hill Cemetery Tour
Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10 | Green Hill Cemetery, 901 Wharton St. | Saturday: 10-11 am, Sunday: 2-4 pm | $5
Wander among the plants and burial plots in Greensboro's oldest, actively used public cemetery. Proceeds benefit Green Hill Cemetery.
Nature Preschool
Tuesday, May 12, and Tuesday, May 26 | Keeley Park, 4110 Keeley Rd, McLeansville. | 10-11 am | $5
Each date for the Preschool Nature program, for ages 2-6, will touch on a different topic. Each program will with a short book followed by a craft/activity. The programs do not all take place at the same location, so please make sure to pay special attention to the program locations. All programs will take place outside and are subject to cancelation if inclement weather occurs. Registration is required.
Canvas Painting Class
Thursday, April 30 | Downtown Greenway, Morehead Park Trailhead, 475 Spring Garden St. | 6-8 pm | Free
Local artist Darlene J. McClinton will be leading a guided canvas painting class on the Downtown Greenway. This will be a fun afternoon of spring-themed creativity, right under Darlene's own "Bridging the Gap" mural. All supplies will be provided, and participants will be able to take home their own canvas masterpiece. Pre-registration is required.
Lindley Summer Bash
