ATLANTA - State Representative Joe Campbell (R-Camilla) today announces that the Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA), a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, recently awarded a $5,000 Arts Education Program Grant to Baconton Community Charter School for a Fiber Arts Sewing Lab in Mitchell County. The funding is part of GCA's General Operating Support, Project and Arts Education Program grants.
"I'm proud to see the Georgia Council for the Arts investing in Mitchell County through this grant for the Fiber Arts Sewing Lab," said Rep. Campbell. "Given the competitive application process, it's especially meaningful to see this support directed to our community, where arts education plays a vital role in inspiring creativity and expanding opportunities for our students. This funding will help ensure that local residents have greater access to meaningful and enriching arts experiences, and I appreciate the continued support from GCA, my colleagues in the Georgia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts."
The Arts Education Program Grant will be distributed to 28 organizations to support the arts in K-12 education and may include a variety of disciplines, from visual art to music or theater, to dance and creative writing.
GCA recently announced more than $1.3 million in competitive grant funding that will be distributed to recipients in 49 counties across the state through GCA's General Operating Support, Project and Arts Education Program grants. Funds awarded by GCA include appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. A total of 177 grants were awarded during GCA's initial disbursements for fiscal year 2026, and a complete list of these grantees may be found here.
GCA seeks to empower the arts industry in Georgia and artists around the state to cultivate healthy, vibrant communities that are rich in civic participation, cultural experiences and economic prosperity. As part of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Council for the Arts provides grant funding, programs and services statewide that support this industry, preserve cultural heritage and create increased access to meaningful arts experiences.
