Dr. Lois Lee elected 2028 President of American Academy of Pediatrics

BOSTON, MA [Sept. 18, 2026] - Lois K. Lee, MD, MPH, FAAP, has been elected by the membership of the American Academy of Pediatrics as the Academy's President-elect. Dr. Lee will serve as AAP President in 2028.

This is an important honor for Dr. Lee, and a proud moment for all of Boston Children's. The AAP President serves as the organization's primary national spokesperson, leading its Executive Committee to set strategic health priorities and champion child welfare on behalf of 67,000 pediatricians, pediatric medical sub-specialists, surgical specialists, and trainees across the country. In this role, Dr. Lee will speak out on the major child health issues of our time, promote evidence-based, science-driven policy, and help guide the Academy's operations and priorities as a member of its Board of Directors.

A Senior Associate in the Division of Emergency Medicine and the immediate past Chair of the AAP's Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention, Dr. Lee has built a foundational body of research into pediatric injury prevention, including for firearm injuries, in an area that has long lacked major research support, translating rigorous injury science into policy that has helped prevent thousands of injuries. She is also the Associate Director for Public Policy for the Fenwick Institute and Senior Faculty Advisor for the Office of Health Equity & Inclusion where she has been instrumental in positioning Boston Children's as a leading voice in pediatric public policy and health equity. An elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Lee also helps train the next generation of caregivers and scientists as Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Lee's election is a direct reflection of the respect she has earned across the field of pediatrics, and of the values we hold dear at Boston Children's: rigorous science, unwavering advocacy for children and families, and a deep commitment to health equity.
