Cook, bake, or compost your pumpkins!

As Halloween decorations come down, consider cooking or baking with your holiday pumpkins to reduce food waste. If pumpkins are past their prime, compost them! Cook or Bake with Pumpkin Consider one of these great recipes to use the seeds, flesh, or rind of your holiday pumpkins! Iowa City Curbside Composting Iowa City curbside customers can compost pumpkins or gourds at the curb. Remove any candles or lights from inside your pumpkins and place them in your yellow-top composting cart or in a paper yard waste bag ($2 sticker required per bag), and then place your cart or bags at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day. Compost Facility Drop-off Residents can also take pumpkins to the Iowa City Landfill's Compost Facility, 3900 Hebl Ave. SW., to be composted ($5 minimum fee covers loads weighing up to 400 pounds).
