Cary to Observe Memorial Day with Remembrance Ceremony, Facility Closures and Service Changes

  • Cary Town Hall and most staffed facilities will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.
  • GoCary's fixed route will operate on a Sunday schedule and Tier I Door to Door service only on May 25.
  • Curbside collection will be delayed by one day for the week of May 25 - 29.
  • A Memorial Day Remembrance ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Veterans Freedom Park to honor those who have fallen while serving in the armed forces.

Cary, NC - Most Cary staffed facilities, including Town Hall, will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. Cary community centers, the Cary Senior Center, and the Cary Arts Center will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 22, and reopen during regular business hours on Tuesday, May 26. The Page-Walker Arts & History Center will close Saturday, May 23, and reopen May 26. The Cary Theater will operate on a limited schedule on Saturday and Sunday and will be closed on May 25. Stevens Nature Center at Hemlock Bluffs will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, and on May 25; however, Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve will remain open daily from 9 a.m. until sunset. Bond Park Boathouse will maintain regular hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the Cary Tennis Park clubhouse and outdoor courts will operate on their normal schedule.

GoCary fixed route service will operate on a Sunday schedule from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with buses running every hour. Door to Door service will be limited to Tier 1 only.

Curbside garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection will be delayed by one day for the week of May 25 - 29, and the Citizen's Convenience Center will be closed on May 25. Citizens can view or print their collection schedule using the Cary Collects app or the curbside collection calendar.

As residents fire up the grill or deep fryer this weekend, Cary reminds everyone to keep safety in mind by properly disposing of used cooking oil and grease through the residential curbside recycling program. Residents can place at least a half-gallon of cooled cooking oil or grease in a plastic screw-top food container, label it "Used Cooking Oil," and schedule a free curbside pickup at carync.gov/311.

Cary will hold a Memorial Day Remembrance ceremony at Veterans Freedom Park on Monday, May 25, from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Event parking is at Cary Academy, 1500 N. Harrison Ave, with ADA accessible shuttle service to the park from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. The community is invited to join us for a patriotic ceremony honoring America's fallen veterans. Limited seating is available, but attendees are welcome and encouraged to bring lawn chairs if they are able. More information is available at carync.gov/memorialday. A special Field of Flags will be placed at Veterans Freedom Memorial Park all week to honor those who have bravely served in the armed forces.
