The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, attended this afternoon, at the Navantia shipyard in Ferrol (A Coruña), the ceremonial launching of the F111 Bonifaz frigate, the first of a modern series of ships to be built at these facilities for the Spanish Navy, as part of the F-110 Programme. A state-of-the-art frigate which, in his opinion, is "a symbol of the progress" that Spain is experiencing, and which "crystallises the efforts of many workers, of science and the talent of an entire country".

During the ceremony, at which H.M. Queen Sofía acted as patroness and which was attended by the Second Vice-President of the Government of Spain and Minister for Work and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, the head of the Executive stressed that this frigate "has brought to our coasts more than 4,300 million euros of investment and more than 9,000 jobs" and "will sail the oceans from today as a standard of our technological capacity and our commitment to European and international security". In this regard, Sánchez stressed that "our armed forces are a key component of European and NATO defence" and "this frigate will allow them to carry out their missions with maximum guarantees".

Spain, an open, prosperous and industrial nation

During his speech, the president highlighted the profound transformation of our productive fabric that we have carried out in the last 7 years, which "is helping us to grow and generate employment like never before and like no other European country" and which has turned us into "the great exporting country to Europe and the world", increasing our industrial added value above countries such as Germany, France or Italy and turning many of our companies into global benchmarks.

In his opinion, the good figures we are experiencing "are only the beginning of our great industrial revolution". "For the first time in history, we have all the ingredients needed to succeed. And I assure you that we will not let the opportunity pass us by. Spain is and will be an open nation, a prosperous nation and an industrial nation", he concluded.
