BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) released the following statement on the passing of Black radio pioneer and activist, Bob Law. For over fifty years, Law used his platform to discuss and speak out on issues of the Black community, and he was a key figure in launching the late Reverend Jesse Jackson, Jr.'s presidential campaign:
"I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Law, a pioneering voice in Black radio and a tireless advocate for his community. Over a remarkable career spanning more than five decades, Bob used his platform not only to inform and engage but to empower. In 1981, he took "Night Talk" national through the National Black Network, creating the first live, nationally broadcast Black radio talk show in the country.
"Through 'Night Talk,' Bob cultivated a powerful sense of national community, raising awareness, mobilizing collective action, and even helping spark the 'Run Jesse Run' movement that contributed to Jesse Jackson's 1984 presidential campaign. He remained outspoken about the state of Black media and steadfast in uplifting the voices and needs of the Black community.
"His influence and indelible mark in radio will be felt for generations to come. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues, and all who found guidance and connection in his voice. May he rest in peace."
