SCO Forum on “Green” and Sustainable Development opens in Ningbo

On April 29, 2026, in Ningbo (Zhejiang Province, China) SCO Deputy Secretary-General Sohail Khan took part in the SCO Forum on "Green" and Sustainable Development. The forum was jointly organized by the Chinese SCO Committee on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China, and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province. The aim of the forum was to create a platform for cooperation and exchange of experience, and to promote practical collaboration among SCO member states in the field of "green" and sustainable development.

In his congratulatory message to the forum participants, President of China Xi Jinping emphasized China's significant contribution to building a global ecological civilization:

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the SCO, and it is also the first year of implementing China's 15th Five-Year Plan. China is ready to work with all parties to promote the "Shanghai Spirit," improve the global environmental governance system, and build a cleaner, more beautiful, and sustainable world.

Sohail Khan noted that within the Organisation's activities in sustainable development there is an objective need to more effectively use the combined potential of SCO member states, as well as their experience and knowledge, to make progress in achieving sustainable development goals.

SCO Forum on "Green" and Sustainable Development opens in Ningbo

Following the forum the parties adopted the Ningbo Initiative on SCO cooperation in sustainable development titled "Joint Development of Ecology Toward a 'Green' Future" .

On the sidelines of the event the Secretariat together with the SCO Committee also organized an exhibition of children's drawings from SCO countries titled "Green SCO, a Beautiful Future."
