Krishnamoorthi Secures Provisions on China, Iran, AI, and Prediction Markets While Fighting Politicization of the Intelligence Community

WASHINGTON - Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), a senior member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, today announced that several of his intelligence oversight priorities were included in the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2027, which was approved by the House Intelligence Committee.

Among the provisions Krishnamoorthi helped secure are requirements for new intelligence assessments on China's economy and the global consequences of Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, stronger safeguards to prevent intelligence personnel from using nonpublic information to trade on prediction markets, and new oversight of how artificial intelligence is deployed across the Intelligence Community.

"At a time when the United States faces growing threats from China, Iran, and other adversaries, Congress should be focused on strengthening our Intelligence Community, not distracting it with politically motivated investigations," Congressman Krishnamoorthi said. "I'm proud to have secured provisions that will strengthen congressional oversight, improve our understanding of emerging threats, and ensure intelligence resources are used responsibly. Although my amendment to prevent intelligence resources from being diverted to relitigating the 2020 election was rejected, I'll continue fighting to keep our intelligence agencies focused on protecting the American people."

During the markup, Krishnamoorthi also offered an amendment to prohibit National Intelligence Program funds from being used by the FBI to investigate the 2020 election in Fulton County, Georgia. Krishnamoorthi argued that FBI intelligence personnel and resources should instead remain focused on genuine foreign intelligence, counterterrorism, cyber, and other national security threats. The committee rejected the amendment.
