Tina Thomas Pleads Guilty to Assaulting an Election Official During the March 28, 2023 Raymond Town and School Elections

Concord, NH - Attorney General John Formella announces that Tina Thomas, age 54, of Raymond, New Hampshire has pled guilty and was sentenced in the Rockingham County Superior Court to one Class B felony count of assaulting a town election officer, contrary to RSA 659:41.

During the March 28, 2023, Raymond Town and School Elections, Ms. Thomas struck Raymond Town Moderator Pro Tem Jonathan Wood in the face with her hand.

The State charged Ms. Thomas with knowingly causing unprivileged physical contact to a town officer who was discharging his duties of office at an election.

"Assaulting an election official is a serious offense that strikes at the heart of our democratic process. This plea and sentence send a clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated in New Hampshire," said Attorney General Formella. "Election officials must be able to carry out their duties safely and without fear of violence or intimidation."

As part of a negotiated plea, Ms. Thomas pled guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in the house of corrections, all suspended for one year on the condition of good behavior and compliance with the terms of the sentencing order. Ms. Thomas was additionally ordered to have no contact with the victim for the period of suspension and to complete ten hours of community service. Pursuant to Part I, Article 11 of the New Hampshire Constitution, Ms. Thomas lost her right to vote in New Hampshire.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Matthew Conley and Senior Assistant Attorney General Brendan O'Donnell of the Election Law Unit. The investigation into this matter was conducted by Election Law Unit Investigator Richard Tracy and the Town of Raymond Police Department.
