Welcome K-9 Officer Dagger

The Key West Police Department is pleased to welcome our newest K-9 Officer Dagger, who is working with handler K9 Officer Matt Hansell.

Dagger recently gained his certification after 144 hours training with Canine Extreme. He is a dual-purpose K-9, specializing in narcotics, apprehensions, and search and tracking.

This is K-9 handler Officer Hansell's second dog. His first, Dexter, passed away suddenly earlier this year. They worked together for eight years.

Dagger - along with the department's other new K-9 Drax - is a generous donation from the Ahrensfeld family.

"Our K-9 Unit plays a vital role in keeping drugs off our streets and aiding in capturing dangerous felons," said Chief Sean Brandenburg. "It was a hard loss to lose Jigsaw and Dexter within months of each other. We are thrilled to welcome Drax and Dagger to our team."
