Linn County received 17 applications to fill the upcoming District 2 Board of Supervisor vacancy. Applications for the vacancy were due March 23 at 11:59 p.m. The vacancy will occur due to the resignation of Linn County Supervisor Ben Rogers who announced on February 17 he is leaving the Board of Supervisors for a position with UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's Foundation, effective April 1, 2025.
Per Iowa Code 69.14A, a Committee of County Officers comprised of the county Auditor, Recorder, and Treasurer are responsible for determining whether to appoint a replacement or to hold a special election. During a public meeting on March 13, 2025, Linn County Auditor Todd Taylor, Recorder Carolyn Siebrecht, and Treasurer Brent Oleson voted to fill the District 2 Board of Supervisor vacancy by appointment because the committee did not receive a valid petition meeting the requirements as stated in Iowa Code section 331.306 from electors in District 2 to trigger a special election.
The following is a list of applicants who met the application deadline (in alphabetical order):
Linn County Auditor Todd Taylor, Recorder Carolyn Siebrecht, and Treasurer Brent Oleson will meet on Wednesday, March 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the Linn County Public Service Center to discuss applications received and the next steps in the process.
