Attempted Carjackings of Females in Hollenbeck Area NR24306cm

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) Hollenbeck Area Robbery Detectives are seeking the public's assistance in locating the suspect in three attempted carjackings of female victims in and around gas stations and other business parking lots.

On November 9, 2024, around 10:40 a.m., a female victim was pumping gas at a gas station in the 3200 block of North Broadway when the suspect approached her. The victim entered her vehicle and attempted to close the door when the suspect opened the door and forced his way into the vehicle while pushing the victim towards the passenger seat and demanding her keys. A brief struggle ensued and the victim was able to get the suspect out of her vehicle. The suspect then fled the area on foot.

On November 9, 2024, around 1:50 p.m., a female victim was walking to her parked vehicle in the 2100 block of North Broadway. As the victim entered her vehicle, the suspect demanded the victim's keys. The suspect grabbed onto the driver's side door and a struggle ensued. The suspect then let go of the door and smashed the driver's window with a hard object before fleeing the area on foot.

On November 9, 2024, around 4:55 p.m., a female victim was pumping gas at a gas station in the 2900 block of East Cesar E. Chavez Avenue. As the victim finished pumping gas and entered her vehicle, the suspect grabbed onto the driver's side door and pulled it open. The suspect grabbed the victim and pulled her out of the vehicle and continued to assault her. A passerby pulled the suspect off of the victim. The suspect then fled the area on a silver bicycle.

Detectives conducted a follow-up to the above locations and located video footage of these incidents which led to the identification of the suspect. At this time, the suspect remains outstanding.

The suspect has been identified as Maurice Latorre. He is described as a 49-year-old male Hispanic, with black hair, black eyes, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighing 180 lbs.

If seen, the public is urged to exercise caution and avoid approaching Latorre, as he is considered violent and dangerous. Instead, they should immediately call 911.
