Board of Trustees elects new leaders, members

Raymond J. Manista

The Marquette University Board of Trustees elected its newest leadership team. Raymond J. Manista, Arts '87, Law '90, was elected chair of the board; Jim Ryan, Arts '89, was elected vice chair.

Manista, who was elected to the board in 2017, served as vice chair of the board from 2023-26. He is executive vice president - chief legal and public affairs officer at Northwestern Mutual, a leading Milwaukee-based financial services provider. Manista's full bio is available online. The Board of Trustees also elected three new members, including two Jesuits: Rev. Raymond P. Guiao, S.J., president of Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland; Gil Peri, president and CEO of Children's Wisconsin; and Rev. Eric Sundrup, S.J., vice president for mission and ministry and university chaplain at Xavier University in Cincinnati.

Rev. Raymond P. Guiao, S.J.

Born and raised in the western suburbs of Cleveland, Father Guiao graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1982. He then entered the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), was ordained to the priesthood in June 1999, and pronounced final vows in the Society of Jesus in 2009. In his 20 years of service at Saint Ignatius, Father Guiao taught theology, English and music and also served as interim vice president for Ignatian Mission.

Father Guiao holds a bachelor's degree in English from Case Western Reserve University; a bachelor's degree in music from Mundelein College in Chicago; a master's degree in voice performance from the University of Michigan School of Music; and a Master of Divinity from Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Gil Peri

Gil Peri became president and CEO of Children's Wisconsin, the only health system in the state 100% dedicated to kids and teenagers, in August 2024. He leads nearly 8,000 team members who support kids and families through world-class medical care, impactful advocacy, transformative research and purpose-driven education. Under his leadership, Children's Wisconsin is advancing its services across the continuum of care - from primary, specialty and hospital care to mental and behavioral health to community-based services.

Peri currently serves on the boards of the national Children's Hospitals' Solutions for Patient Safety, Wisconsin Hospital Association, Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County, and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He also supports the development of future health care leaders through his role as an adjunct assistant professor in the Institute for Health and Humanity at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Peri earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology, Master of Public Health and Master of Business Administration from the University of South Florida.

Rev. Eric Sundrup, S.J.

Father Sundrup previously served as associate vice president for mission and ministry at Xavier from 2023-2024, and as pastor of the campus' Bellarmine Chapel from 2019-2023. He entered the Society of Jesus in 2003 after completing his undergraduate degree at Xavier University. During his formation, he worked in several Jesuit high schools in the United States as well as Peru. He is one of the founders of The Jesuit Post, a website and social media outreach project targeting 20- to 30-year-olds.

Father Sundrup has a master's degree in philosophy from Loyola University Chicago and a Master of Divinity degree from the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University. He was ordained in 2014 and worked as a campus minister and as the director of Hispanic ministry for St. Mary Student Parish at the University of Michigan.

Three trustees named to emeritus status

The Board of Trustees has conferred emeritus status on three trustees: Todd Adams, the most recent board chair and chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Zurn Elkay Water Solutions; Nancy Hernandez, Grad '02, president of the Hispanic Collaborative in Milwaukee; and Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, S.J., pastor of Old St. Patrick's Parish, Chicago.
