Genentech Groundbreaking Remarks

September 28, 2 026

Good morning! It's great to be in Hillsboro.

Thank you to everyone who made today possible - the leadership and talented employees at Genentech, the City of Hillsboro, the team at Business Oregon and my office, and the broader life sciences sector in Oregon that knows how important this expansion is. Moments like this make me optimistic about Oregon's future.

Life science innovation is at a point of major opportunity. Across the country, we have seen breakthrough advancements - and what is ahead will be equally significant. Oregon is ready to lead, and partners like Genentech are making that possible.

As your Governor, I am committed to supporting investments like the one we are celebrating today because I want all of Oregon to thrive, and that means retaining and bringing living-wage jobs to our communities. This investment is about partnership, and Genentech is bringing something major to the table - a $750 million investment that will create approximately 450 high-wage manufacturing and construction jobs.

These are high-paying, career-building jobs that allow people to put down roots, buy a home, and raise a family. And this facility is only one part of what could be a much larger opportunity ahead.

Genentech is a global company in a high-value industry that is choosing to invest and expand here in Oregon. That says something about Oregon's competitiveness and about the direction we are headed.

Oregon is a leader in scientific innovation and advanced manufacturing. We have a skilled workforce, strong research institutions, and a growing ecosystem of companies doing important work in life sciences and biotech.

Genentech's Hillsboro campus has been a critical manufacturing site for nearly two decades, producing therapies in oncology, immunology, and neurology. This new facility will add device-filling capabilities to strengthen domestic production and support a more secure supply chain.

The work that will happen in this building - at the cutting edge of biopharmaceutical manufacturing - connects directly to patient outcomes. Lives will be saved, and treatments improved, for people here and around the world.

As your Governor, I'm focused on doing whatever it takes to grow Oregon's economy, create more living-wage jobs, and position our state as a competitive destination for advanced industries. We are streamlining permitting, modernizing economic development tools, strengthening workforce pathways, and making sure Oregon is at the top of the list for investments like this. This work is grounded in my Prosperity Roadmap - our strategy to retain and grow Oregon businesses, catalyze job creation, and accelerate economic growth statewide.

To Genentech: thank you for choosing Oregon, for investing in this community, and for creating jobs that make a meaningful difference for families and for this region.

This is partnership between industry and government at its best. And it is just the beginning. Congratulations, and thank you.
