TAMPA, FL. (July 21, 2025) - - Tampa Police Detectives are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday morning, leaving one man in critical condition. While early in the investigation, this appears to be an isolated incident with no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.

Just after 6:00 am on Sunday, July 20, 2025, Tampa Police received two ShotSpotter notifications indicating the detection of possible gunfire in the 3600 block of N. Whittier St. Minutes later, a call was received advising that a person had been shot at the same location.

Tampa Police Officers arrived within four minutes of the original detection and found an adult black male in his early 30s, lying on Whittier St. just north of 28th Ave., suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered first aid until Tampa Fire Rescue arrived and transported the man to a local hospital. He remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation revealed that two vehicles at the scene sustained multiple rounds of gunfire, and evidence suggests an exchange of gunfire occurred at the location.

Detectives are actively working to identify all individuals involved in the incident and determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.
