Statement by Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Korea on So-Called “Dokdo Day” Event Held by Japan’s Shimane Prefecture

Regarding the so-called "Dokdo Day" event hosted by Japan's Shimane Prefecture on Sunday, February 22, and the participation by a high-level official of Japan's central government, the government of the Republic of Korea strongly protests against Japan's reiteration of unjust sovereignty claims over Dokdo and once again sternly calls for the immediate abolition of the event.

As Dokdo is clearly an integral part of the ROK territory historically, geographically, and under international law, the Japanese government must immediately stop making unjustified claims over Dokdo, and squarely face history in a humble manner.
