Statement on the Commission on Government Efficiency (COGE) Finalized Ballot Proposals and Report

"For too long, outdated rules have made it harder than it needs to be to build in New York City. The Building Congress is thrilled to see COGE present concrete solutions to modernize how our City does business. Cutting nonprofit and small business procurement time by more than half, adding a formal rainy-day fund, consolidating 40 permits across 18 offices into a single hub, streamlining the use of public space, and unlocking more than $200 million in value from underutilized City property are exactly the kinds of reforms our industry has been calling for. These changes would mean builders spend less time navigating bureaucracy and more time delivering the housing, infrastructure, and services that New York needs. Would we have loved to see even more? Of course! But as a former Commission Chair, I understand complex policy shifts sometimes require more time and study.

We commend Mayor Mamdani, Chair Patrick Gaspard, and the Commission for tackling efficiency head-on, and we look forward to these measures going before voters this November."
