Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land and Water, Southeast Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Cordova Telecom Cooperative, Inc.

PROJECT NAME: ADL 109504

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: The tide and submerged lands of Saginaw Channel, Lynn Canal, Icy Strait, Cross Sound, Yakutat Bay, and Orca Inlet.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: See application for list of the MTRS.

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW) received an application for a public utility easement from Cordova Telecom. The applicant proposes placement of a fiber optic submarine cable on State-owned, DMLW managed tide and submerged land from Juneau, to Gustavus, Hoonah, Pelican, Yakutat, and finally ending in Cordova. The fiber optic cable (FOC) subsea system will bring high-speed broadband to rural and underserved communities throughout Southeast Alaska. An easement width of 30 feet is required per 11 AAC 51.015 to provide adequate space for FOC infrastructure and activity. The applicant is requesting roughly 1,920 acres or 2,789,000 feet for the total length of the easement.

REQUESTED TERM:
Start: When easement is signed by both parties

End: 30-year term

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: June 8, 2026

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must emailed to the adjudicator below or received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at Southeast Regional Land Office, PO Box 111020, Juneau, Alaska 99811 on or before 5:00 p.m. on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
