The Texans picked up four singles wins on Courts 3-6 to clinch the match, highlighted by freshman and junior . Both Castano and Mukhutdinova picked up their 10th singles wins of the season, with Castano winning on Court 5 in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 and Mukhutdinova winning on Court 6 in 6-1, 6-2.
Castano is the third freshman in the last two years to win 10 matches in her debut season as a Texan. Mukhutdinova picked up her seventh consecutive singles win on Monday.
Senior and junior collected their sixth doubles win as a duo on Court 2 6-4, but SFA clinched the doubles point thanks to wins on Court 1 and Court 3. While SFA took the early lead, Tarleton State was quick to bounce back.
The Texans built momentum off wins from Castano and Mukhutdinova, even with singles defeats on Court 1 and Court 2. Morales picked up her seventh singles win of the season in dominating fashion, only dropping three games on Court 4. The Guatemala City, Guatemala, native defeated SFA's Antonella Taco Villarreal 6-2, 6-1 to help the Texans stay out in front.
Lorca, the 2024 WAC Fall Invitational singles champion, edged out her opponent from SFA in a three-set thriller. Handling SFA's Sonja Rooth 6-4 in the first set, the Ladyjacks' Court 3 player bounced back with a 6-4 win in set two to force a third set. Lorca obtained her seventh singles win of the season in dominating fashion in set three, not losing a game and picking up her second bagel (6-0 set) to help Tarleton State walk out in victorious fashion.
"Today was a great match. We fought hard at each position and competed well until the end," head coach said. "Noelia played some of the best tennis I have seen from her all year. It was a very enjoyable singles match to watch. I'm also very happy with our four through six spots and how they stayed focused and had good energy to help us to another huge win. I'm excited to play again tomorrow."
Tarleton State wraps up its road trip on Tuesday before going on Spring Break. The Texans will face former Texan assistant coach, Sonia Carlson, and McNeese at 1 p.m. at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center. The match will be available to watch on WAC International and live scoring will be available through iOnCourt.
