The President of the Government of Spain has held a telephone conversation with the prime minister of Iraq, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, as part of the round of contacts he is making in the face of the alarming escalation of the Middle East conflict.

The President thanked the Iraqi Prime Minister for the efforts he is making to promote stability in the region in a context of maximum gravity. Both leaders have expressed extreme concern about the possibility of further escalation that could lead to a generalised conflict.
The President stressed the need for the international community to work together to achieve peace through diplomacy and dialogue.
He also reiterated the Government of Spain's firm commitment to stability and security in Iraq, as evidenced by the presence of Spanish troops in the NATO mission in Iraq and in the Coalition against Daesh.
