Tonight, Georgia Democrats Dr. Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard won their race to become Georgia's next Public Service Commissioner. Johnson and Hubbard are the first Democrats in Georgia to win a non-federal statewide election in nearly twenty years.
Johnson and Hubbard ran on lowering utility prices and making Georgia more affordable. Johnson and Hubbard will fight for fair energy rates, clean power, transparency, and accountability so Georgians can demand more from the Public Service Commission.
Meanwhile, tonight's results are a clear rejection of Trump and Republicans' disastrous, billionaires-first agenda that is raising costs in a critical battleground state.
In response to Johnson and Hubbard's victory in the Georgia Public Service Commission election, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
"Johnson and Hubbard won tonight's Georgia Public Service Commissioner race by focusing on the issue that matters most to Georgians: lowering costs. This victory is a direct response to Trump's cost-raising agenda that is squeezing pocketbooks in Georgia and across the country. As the first Georgia Democrat to win a non-federal statewide election in nearly 20 years, Johnson and Hubbard will fight to bring down utility costs and make life more affordable, and their election should serve as a warning sign to Republicans in Georgia and beyond. Costs are too damn high and Trump and Republicans are to blame."
DNC Vice Chair and Association of State Democratic Committees President Jane Kleeb released the following statement:
"In the final stretch ahead of Election Day, I was proud to be on the ground in Georgia supporting Johnson and Hubbard and helping to make sure their campaign had what it needed to come out on top tonight. These Public Service Commission races are the most important on the ballot when it comes to directly lowering costs. Our Democratic state parties have a simple strategy: Organize everywhere. It's clearly working, and tonight's results prove we also have a winning message focused on affordability. We now head into the 2026 midterm elections with incredible wind behind our backs."
