Today the Flossmoor Police Department announced that on Tuesday, Sept. 16, officers arrested Sean Helton of Flossmoor on two counts of Criminal Damage to Government Property. The arrest stems from a follow-up investigation on incidents from Friday, Aug. 22, when graffiti, including racial slurs and racist symbols, were found painted on a wall of the Flossmoor Metra Station and on a sculpture installation, located in Flossmoor's Leavitt Park.
"The Flossmoor Police Department takes incidents related to hate and racism in our community very seriously," says Police Chief Carl Estelle. "The arrest in this case reflects our commitment to holding individuals accountable for acts that seek to divide and cause harm. We will continue to work closely with the Illinois State's Attorney's Office to ensure justice is served and remain dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive community for all residents."
