Rep. Sykes Announces more than $2.3 Million for Stark State College

CANTON, OHIO - Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded Stark State College of Technology $2,350,372 in federal funding through the Advanced Tech Education Program. This funding will be used to help accelerate a solution to closing Ohio's workforce gap in automation, artificial intelligence, and microelectronics, while establishing a roadmap for other states.

"I'm pleased to announce Stark State College of Technology has received a grant of more than $2.3 million to expand access to job training programs, equipping students with the skills they need to secure good-paying jobs in the growing industries throughout Ohio's 13th District," said Rep. Sykes. "This grant will boost our local economy by connecting employers to skilled workers, all while expanding opportunities for students to succeed in today's workforce."

"With more than 3,100 students earning engineering technology and manufacturing-related degrees and certificates each year, Stark State is uniquely positioned to help lead this effort," said Para M. Jones, Ph.D., president of Stark State College. "By working with partners across Ohio, we are strengthening the connection between education and industry, expanding opportunities for students and helping build the workforce Ohio manufacturers need to compete and grow."

This project helps local community colleges teach modern manufacturing skills by using real industry job standards, building flexible class paths for adult workers, and sharing these successful tools across Ohio through a state network.
