UC community makes a meaningful impact on Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday reflects what makes the University of Cincinnati and UC Health extraordinary - people who believe in the power of education, innovation and community. This year more than $1 million dollars was raised from more than 4,200 alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students.
The funds raised will advance UC's most important priorities - opening doors for students, supporting life-changing research and investing in the future of UC and UC Health.
Rich Bundy, president of the UC Foundation and UC vice president of advancement, emphasized the significance of Giving Tuesday and the impact it has across the university and health system.
"Moments like this reveal the enduring spirit of our Bearcat community," he said. "This year's support reaffirms our shared belief in UC's mission and the impact we can make together."
Giving Tuesday success stories include:
- 1,086 donors gave $327,747 to support student scholarships across the university, which play a vital role in ensuring UC students can stay enrolled and graduate on time.
- Causes such as the UC Student Emergency Fund, UC Fund for Scholarships and the Bearcats Pantry & Resource Center benefited from 1,001 donors who made targeted gifts totaling $56,093 to support student success. Learn more about driving student success through philanthropy.
- 101 ambassadors inspired 533 gifts totaling $53,310 collectively.
Several Giving Tuesday gifts will have a transformative impact on the university community, including:
- Gayle G. Elliott, Eve '93, DAAP '96, gave $249,000 to The Gayle Elliott Scholarship Fund for International Co-op. This fund supports full-time students in UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science participating in the formal International Co-op program.
- Meridel Newman, Nur '59, gave $100,000 to establish the Meridel Newman Next Nurse Program Fund in the College of Nursing.
- Patrick S. Portway, A&S '63, gave $100,000 to the College of Arts and Sciences to support the college's greatest needs.
- The Browning Family gave $30,000 to the Cheerleading Development Fund, which helps cover expenses and supports the greatest needs of the Cheerleading program.
