The President congratulated German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on his anniversary

On behalf of himself and all the people of Lithuania, President Gitanas Nausėda congratulated Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz of the Federal Republic of Germany on his anniversary.

The President welcomed the dynamic and strengthening bilateral relations between Lithuania and Germany, reinforced by successful cooperation at the multilateral level - within the European Union, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and other international formats.

"Germany's contribution to strengthening the security of Lithuania and the entire eastern flank of NATO is particularly significant. In recent years, our countries have made tremendous progress in their strategic partnership. We have officially inaugurated the German Brigade Lithuania (Litauenbrigade) and continue to prepare responsibly for its permanent deployment in Lithuania in 2027. Just a week ago, we broke ground for the Rheinmetall ammunition factory, which will enhance both countries' contributions to strengthening the European defense industry and regional security, and we have also launched negotiations on a second factory in Lithuania," the President's greeting reads.

President Nausėda emphasized that, united by a shared understanding of common threats and values, Lithuania and Germany will continue to strengthen their partnership on security and defense issues, creating new proof of their shared determination and friendship.

"I am convinced that the strong relations between Lithuania and Germany will remain a solid foundation for flourishing political, economic and cultural cooperation. We stand ready to continue nurturing our strategic partnership and the friendship between our nations," said the Lithuanian President.

The Lithuanian leader wished the German Chancellor happiness, every success, and unwavering determination in his work and political endeavors.
