Introduction

On August 31, 2025, Pakistan formally recognized Armenia through the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Armenia and Pakistan. It was signed by Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China.[1] The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels, seeking "to achieve their shared objectives of peace, progress, and prosperity for the peoples of their two countries."[2] The development came following the historic Azerbaijan-Armenia peace deal brokered by the U.S. on August 8, 2025. The peace deal not only ended decades of dispute and conflict between the two South Caucasus neighbours but also opened a window for reevaluation of ties between Pakistan and Armenia.
