Update: Fiber Optic Infrastructure Installation Along I-80 in Contra Costa, Solano, and Alameda Counties

Full Closure of Multiple Eastbound and Westbound I-80 on and off Ramps continues
Sunday through Thursday, Nightly, between 9 PM -5 AM through May 2026

Contra Costa County - Caltrans is announcing ongoing closures related to the Fiber Optic Infrastructure Project along both eastbound and westbound I-80, I-980 and I-580 in Contra Costa, Solano and Alameda Counties. The construction work, which focuses on installing new fiber optic infrastructure, will be conducted during overnight hours, specifically between 9 PM and 5 AM to minimize traffic disruption.

Caltrans will implement nightly ramp closures on eastbound and westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) between McDonald Avenue and the Carquinez Bridge throughout May 2026 with additional nightly closures to follow on I-80 near the Carquinez bridge, the I-980 to-I-580 interchange toward the connector between I-580 and I-80, throughout the duration of the project.

Full closures are scheduled to continue the week of Sunday, April 26, 2026, between 9 PM to 5 AM of the multiple on/off ramps between Barrett Avenue and Pinole Valley Road. During these closure periods, motorists are advised to follow posted detour routes.

• EB I-80 on and off ramps SB and NB Appian Way |4/26 through 4/29 |10 PM-5 AM
• WB I-80 on ramp Barrett Avenue | 4/27 and 4/28| 9 PM -5 AM
• WB I-80 off ramp McBryde Avenue | 4/29 and 4/30 | 9 PM to 5 AM
• WB I-80 on ramp Solano Avenue | 4/28 and 4/29 | 9 PM to 5 AM
• EB and WB I-80 on and off ramps Pinole Valley Road | alternating on 4/28 through 4/30| Off ramps closed from 10 PM to 5 AM on ramps from 9 PM to 5 AM not simultaneously.
• WB I-80 on ramp from San Pablo Dam Road | 4/30 and 5/3 | 11PM to 5 AM

*Please be advised that during the closure of the Barrett Avenue westbound I-80 on-ramp, Solano Avenue on-ramp will also be closed for the safety of both construction crews and the motoring public.*

This project is tentatively scheduled for completion by Winter 2028.
