Jayson Lusk, vice president and dean of Oklahoma State University Agriculture, has been appointed to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The board is a major unit of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine that addresses issues in agricultural production and natural resource development, including forestry, fisheries, wildlife, and land and water use.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is a nonprofit organization providing independent, objective advice to inform policy with evidence, spark innovation and confront challenging issues for the benefit of society.

"My role on this agriculture and natural resources board reinforces the ability of OSU Agriculture to impact science and science policy at the highest level," Lusk said. "I'm happy to lend my expertise in how food science and technology intersect with policy to positively impact the food industry."

Lusk is an agricultural economics regents professor at OSU who specializes in food policy and emerging food issues. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources works to resolve issues related to the growing demand for food and resources and the impacts of their development and production on air, land, water and natural ecosystems.

The organization focuses on the need to sustain, restore and improve the productivity of agriculture and the natural resource base for the economic well-being of the nation. The board plans activities, explores potential new initiatives and works to support the Academies' relationship with scientific societies, agriculture, food and natural resources groups.

Lusk's appointment to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine board was finalized earlier this month, and he will serve a three-year term. He became the vice president and dean of OSU Agriculture in 2023 and previously served as an OSU agricultural economics professor from 2005 to 2013.
