COLUSA, CA - September 17, 2025 - Colusa County Agricultural Commissioner, M. Anastacia Allen, presented the 2024 Colusa County Crop and Livestock Report to the Board of Supervisors at their meeting earlier this week, providing a comprehensive overview of the region's agricultural production.
The report highlights a total gross agricultural value of $844,583,000 for 2024, a decrease from the previous year's total of $878,077,000. This decline is primarily attributed to lower commodity prices. Despite the overall decrease, several key sectors demonstrated significant value. The report identifies the top ten farm commodities, with almonds leading the way at a value of $279,039,000. Rice followed with a value of $199,830,000, and processing tomatoes contributed $96,024,000. These commodities underscore the enduring strength and importance of fruit, nut, and field crops to the county's economy. Rice production alone accounted for 118,386 harvested acres.
In a positive trend, the livestock and apiary sectors saw an increase in value. The total value of livestock production rose to $47,311,000 in 2024, a notable increase from $33,186,000 in 2023. Cattle and calves production increased to 22,500 head, while sheep and lambs production also saw a rise to 5,100 head.
Additionally, organic products generated a total gross production value of $44,630,309. The report also provided details on the various programs and services offered by the Department of Agriculture, including the Weights and Measures Department, which certified 220 scales and 1,072 meters in 2024, and the Pest Detection Program. The University of California Cooperative Extension was also highlighted for its 100 years of empowering Colusa County through education and outreach.
Agricultural Commissioner M. Anastacia Allen commented on the report, stating, "The 2024 report reflects the challenges our farmers faced with fluctuating market prices, but it also shows the resilience and diversity of Colusa County's agricultural industry. Our producers continue to be a foundational strength of our local economy."
