San Francisco County - Caltrans is pleased to announce that the first of three weekend closures for the 19th Avenue Rehabilitation Project finished ahead of schedule on Monday, April 27 at 1:35 a.m. - about 3 1/2 hours ahead of schedule.
This 70-hour operation finished all Northbound lanes on 19th Avenue from Sloat Boulevard to Lincoln Way, covering 16 blocks and six lane miles on 19th Avenue, also known as State Route 1.
This phase of the project will repave all northbound and southbound lanes of 19th Avenue between Lincoln Way and Holloway Avenue, approximately 18.8 lane miles, as well as Park Presidio Boulevard and the California Street intersection.
Organizing the work in three weekend closures will reduce impact on the public from 40 to 10 days. For all three closures, two lanes are scheduled to be closed with one lane open for public transit, emergency responders and local access.
Caltrans extends its sincere appreciation to all travelers who adjusted their weekend plans - whether by taking public transportation, using designated alternate routes, or postponing trips through the corridor. Your cooperation significantly reduced congestion, enhanced safety for work crews, and played a vital role in enabling early reopening.

The next two weekend closures are as follows:
The second phase of the project includes resurfacing the existing asphalt pavement on SR-1 from Holloway Avenue to Lincoln Way. California Street/Park Presidio intersection will be repaved later during the summer. The schedule also includes upgrading the traffic detection system. Parking on 19th Avenue will be restricted to work zones during weekend closures; parking is permitted on side streets.
Even though one lane will always remain open to traffic while repaving is underway, motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes. For more on the 19th Avenue project, see https://bit.ly/3PKYF2v
