WOODWORKS Shapes for DESIGNFLEX Ceiling Panels Now Available in Grille and Linear Visuals
Architects and designers can mix and match shapes, patterns, and wood finishes for one-of-a-kind geometric visuals

LANCASTER, Pa. (July 9, 2026) - Armstrong World Industries, Inc., a leader in the design and manufacture of innovative interior and exterior architectural applications, has introduced WoodWorks® Shapes for DesignFlex® Grille and Linear tegular ceiling panels. These panels allow architects and designers to create unique, custom-looking geometric visuals with an easy-to-order standard ceiling system while providing acoustical comfort.

The newly designed grille and linear tegular panels are offered in four standard triangle and four parallelogram shapes with a choice of either vertical or horizontal slats or planks. With 10 standard veneer finishes, the panels feature various wood species and veneer cuts for biophilic wood visuals. Standard veneer finishes include Plain Slice Cherry, Plain Slice Walnut, Plain Slice White Maple, Vertical Grain Fir, Quartered Sapele, Quartered Mahogany, Quartered Walnut, Rift White Oak, Plain Slice White Ash, and Plain Slice White Oak.

WoodWorks Shapes for DesignFlex Grille and WoodWorks Shapes for DesignFlex Linear panels combine linear and geometric visuals with the natural warmth of wood to create dynamic installations with standard items and lead times. Shapes and finishes can be mixed and matched for design flexibility and creative freedom, and the newly expanded Armstrong Pattern Gallery helps to enhance the design process with new wood finish and pattern options.

"These additions redefine speed, style, and simplicity in architectural ceilings," said Richard Murlin, director, architectural wood systems, at Armstrong. "The signature advantage of these solutions is the ability to mix and match shapes and warm wood finishes to achieve high-end biophilic aesthetics. Although the visual is bold and complex, components integrate seamlessly into a standard DesignFlex grid and offer standard lead times."

WoodWorks Shapes for DesignFlex Grille and Linear panels are also part of Armstrong ProjectWorks® Design and Pre-construction services. ProjectWorks provides complimentary assistance to help simplify ceiling and wall layouts and deliver comprehensive drawing packages that streamline the entire project process - from design and quoting through takeoffs and installation.

Efficient and Flexible Installations

WoodWorks Shapes for DesignFlex ceiling panels are designed to be installed with standard 9/16" Suprafine® XL® heavy-duty main beams and Suprafine XM cross tees. Simple connections to angle brackets make it easy to achieve 45-degree angles, streamlining installation and enabling seamless integration with other DesignFlex Shapes panels in materials such as Calla®, Ultima®, Lyra®, and MetalWorks™ Shapes.

Infill Panels Provide Acoustical Performance of up to 0.60 NRC

WoodWorks Shapes for DesignFlex Grille and Linear panels can pair with black acoustical infill panels that conceal the plenum and provide acoustical performance of up to 0.60 NRC. The panels offer ASTM E84 Class A fire performance and meet California Department of Public Health (CDPH) low emission standards.

The grille and linear wood panels can enhance Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) and contribute to biophilic designs and building certification standards like the WELL™ v2 "Nature and Place" feature. The panels are also available in FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) certified wood as a premium quoted option (license code FSC-C007626).
