Stanislaus State alumna Adrian Harrell, '98, B.A. sociology and French, is taking her Warrior pride to the system level.
Harrell began her two-year term as chair of the California State University Alumni Council on July 1,
representing more than 4 million alumni across the 23-campus system.
In her CSU role, Harrell represents the collective interests of alumni from all 23 campuses, while also bringing the perspective of a proud Stan State graduate.
"My time at Stan State prepared me for this leadership opportunity by giving me both a strong academic foundation and meaningful opportunities to grow as a leader," Harrell said. "As a student, I learned the value of resilience, collaboration and the importance of lifting others as you climb, all lessons that continue to guide me in my professional and service roles today."
The Alumni Council serves as the official voice of CSU graduates, playing an active role in shaping policy and ensuring alumni voices are represented in systemwide decision-making. The Council works alongside CSU leadership and designates representatives to key groups such as the Board of Trustees, the System Budget Advisory Committee, Advocacy Committee, Student Success Initiative, Strategic Planning Committee, the California State Student Association and the Academic Senate of the CSU.
Harrell's path to the systemwide leadership role reflects her long and distinguished record of service to her alma mater. After she graduated from Stan State with degrees in sociology and French, Harrell began her career in Paris before returning to the Central Valley.
In 2014, she joined the University's Alumni Association and in 2020, she was elected to Stan State's Foundation Board of Directors. In 2024, Harrell was awarded the Presidential Medal, one of the University's highest honors, recognizing her dedicated leadership and support.
"Looking ahead, the Alumni Council will focus on initiatives that both celebrate the impact of our alumni and advance the mission of the CSU system," Harrell said. "By showcasing the stories of alumni who are making meaningful contributions in their communities, industries and beyond, we not only honor our graduates but also illustrate why a CSU degree is such a powerful investment in California's future."
"Continuing to advocate for the CSU at local, state and national levels will be critical, as will unifying our alumni community across the state and beyond to create a stronger, interconnected network that reflects the breadth and excellence of our universities."
