UG Transit Department Implements Changes to Paratransit Service Policy

Effective October 6, 2025, the Unified Government Transit Department will implement changes to its Paratransit service policy.

RideKC Freedom is an ADA and Non-ADA Paratransit service that provides origin-to-destination transportation to persons with eligible disabilities and senior citizens aged 65 years and older to destinations within Wyandotte County. Prior application and approval are required.

Paratransit Changes

  • Shopping Bags and Personal Items - Passengers may only bring what they can independently carry on and off the vehicle. Drivers are not responsible for loading/unloading shopping bags, carts, or personal items.

  • Powered Wheelchairs and Scooters - If a powered wheelchair or scooter becomes inoperable, drivers cannot push or manually move the device due to safety and liability concerns. In these cases, passengers will need to arrange alternate transportation (e.g., non-emergency medical transport).
