CHICAGO - Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) today announced the six winning names for the City's fourth annual "You Name a Snowplow" contest. On February 1, the City posted 25 finalists from the initial pool of names received from Chicagoans, and residents were able to vote for up to six names through midnight on February 14.

The six snowplow names that received the most votes include:

  1. Abolish ICE
  2. Stephen Coldbert
  3. Pope Frío XIV
  4. The Blizzard of Oz
  5. Svencoolie
  6. Caleb Chilliams

"I want to thank the people of Chicago for their unmatched creativity, sense of humor, and civic pride," said Mayor Brandon Johnson. "We are grateful and inspired by the record-breaking participation in the contest this year. As we get through the last of the winter months, I encourage Chicagoans to seek out available resources through 311 and to continue interacting and engaging with local government."

The City received a record number of entries (13,300) and voters (39,000) for this year's contest. The 'Chance the Scraper' entry received honorable mention due to finishing just .24% out of the top six.

Residents who first submitted the winning names (earliest time stamp when there are multiple submissions) will be offered a photo opportunity with the named snowplow in the next few weeks, along with city swag.

DSS manages more than 9,400 lane miles of roadway with a fleet of over 300 salt spreaders that are fully prepared to respond when needed, along with more than 400,000 tons of salt stationed at salt piles throughout the city. The City's full snow fleet can be viewed in real-time during winter storms via the City's plow tracker.
