On the Hill: Short-Term Government Funding

Amid a busy final week before the August recess, the Senate has released its continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government at status-quo levels through Dec. 11, 2026. The bipartisan aim is to pass the funding patch by the end of the week, teeing the bill up for consideration in the House after the recess. However, the House passed their own, very different, CR prior to their departure last week, so the path ahead is not immediately known.

COMMITTEE ACTIVITY THIS WEEK

The Senate Committee on the Budget held a hearing on Aug. 4 titled, "Medicaid: The Reality". The witnesses were Brian Blase, Ph.D., president of the Paragon Health Institute; Jonathan Ingram, J.D., vice president of policy and research at the Foundation for Government Accountability; and Andy Schneider, J.D., research professor of the Practice Center for Children and Families McCourt School of Public Policy, Georgetown University. The association will be communicating with Budget committee member offices to underscore the vital importance of Medicaid.

The Senate Committee on Finance Subcommittee on Health Care held a hearing Aug. 4 titled, "Building a Resilient Health Care Future with Biotechnology."

The Senate is in session all week. It will depart for the August recess at the end of this week, joining the House, which has already left D.C.
