National Nurses United (NNU), the largest union of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members, today announced its endorsement of Daniel Biss for Illinois' 9th Congressional District. Throughout his decades of service as an educator, activist, and elected leader, he has proven that he is ready to put in the work to move forward with transformative legislation that will unrig our economy, guarantee health care to everyone free at the point of service, and provide the tools for workers to organize without interference from their bosses.
"Daniel Biss has spent his career fighting for and enacting progressive policies," said Mary Turner, RN and NNU President. "In his time in the Illinois state legislature and as Evanston Mayor, Daniel built the coalitions and trust needed to implement protections for our immigrant neighbors and critical legislation to protect abortion rights. Daniel will bring his decades of experience into the halls of Congress to fight for guaranteed health care, immigrant justice, and an economy that benefits working people. National Nurses United is proud to endorse Daniel Biss for Congress because we know he will be an unwavering advocate for nurses and our patients."
"Every day, the hardworking members of National Nurses United keep our communities safe and healthy," said Daniel Biss. "I'm grateful to have their support in this race as we fight for Medicare for All, more investment in local hospitals, and a just economy for all."
NNU supports candidates who are committed to nurses' values, including safe staffing in all hospitals across the country, protecting the rights of workers to organize, and guaranteeing health care to everyone. In a recent Gallup poll, nurses were voted the most trusted profession in the United States for the 24th consecutive year. NNU looks forward to helping elect Biss and working closely with him in Congress on the important issues that affect registered nurses, our patients, and our communities.
National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members nationwide.
