Statement from Premier Dixon on the tragedy in Tumbler Ridge

Published February 11, 2026

"On behalf of the Government of Yukon and all Yukoners, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the families affected by the tragic incident in Tumbler Ridge. My thoughts and those of Yukoners are with the broader community and the province of British Columbia as they grieve and support one another.

"As a parent, I am thinking of the families of those who have lost loved ones. I cannot imagine the pain they are going through, and the struggles they will have in the days and months ahead. My thoughts are also with those who were injured and are in hospital.

"A tragedy like this touches all of us. In moments like these, we are reminded of how deeply connected we are. We stand beside our neighbours and with Canadians to offer our thoughts, compassion and support to all those affected by this tragic event as they navigate this devastating and unimaginable loss.

"I have ordered all flags at the Jim Smith Building be lowered to half-mast for seven days in solidarity with our friends in British Columbia as they navigate the days ahead.

"I also want to echo my sincerest gratitude to all those first responders on the ground for your dedication and courage. Thank you for the work you do."
