Public Art Hits the Road in Concord

Residents across Concord are in for a treat as new public art installations hit the road! Three Rider Transit buses got new wraps this week featuring original artwork by North Carolina-based artists Mayanthi Jayawardena of Serendib Creative, Natalie Robinson, and Liz Haywood.

The bus wraps are the latest project of the City of Concord Public Art Commission to inspire creativity and connection through public art in neighborhoods across the city.

Following an open call to artists earlier this year, the Commission selected three designs that celebrate Concord's rich history and culture to be featured on Rider Transit buses. Each artist brought a unique perspective to the project, with artwork focused on community, connection, resilience, and the people who help shape the City of Concord. Their artwork is now on the road and in operation throughout the Rider Transit service area.

The three art-wrapped Rider Transit buses will be in circulation for approximately three years, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to experience the artwork as part of their everyday commute throughout the city.
