05/08/2026 - OlyPD Weekly Update 4-30 to 5-6-26

Crime Map and Updates

Welcome to our crime map. You can search by address, date range, case number, or specific crime type. The map includes serious felony crimes, vehicle prowls, thefts (except shoplifting), and arrests beginning in Nov. 2020. Click on icons for more detail. Addresses listed are rounded to the hundred block. For a complete list of case reports, visit olympiawa.gov/p2c.

Notable Trends

  • Two auto thefts reported this week. In one case, the victim left the vehicle running briefly unattended. The suspect stole the vehicle and fled from officers trying to stop it. TCSO ultimately stopped the vehicle and the suspect was arrested. In the other case, a witness reported two suspects acting suspiciously in a Kia Forte. One was in the front seat with a screwdriver and the other climbing through a broken window with a flashlight. The steering column was damaged when officers arrived. Two suspects were seen near the scene but ultimately not located. We have seen an uptick in Kia thefts or attempted thefts again.
  • Three residential burglaries reported. Officers arrested the suspect in one that was a violation of a no contact order. In another, the suspect entered the home of a deceased neighbor. Some of the property was returned to officers. In the last case, the suspect used a ladder to jump a fence and steal a bike from the victim's backyard.
  • Two rapes reported with one still an open investigation. The other was a SANE kit pick up from the hospital.
  • One robbery reported where two men threatened to beat up the victim and stole his backpack.
  • We had four thefts and vehicle prowls overnight in the southeast area near Henderson and Yelm Hwy this week. Prescription sunglasses, a wallet and bikes were stolen in those cases. With longer days, now is a good time to restart your 9 p.m. Routine if you don't already have one. Check your mail, bring in all your valuables, turn your porch light on and lock your car, garage and home before heading to bed.

Other Items

  • Officers responded to 1,152 calls for service this week.
  • In this week's photo, our Honor Guard participated in the Medal of Honor ceremony last week at the Capitol Campus. The event pays tribute to officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities and recognizes those who earned the Medal of Honor for extraordinary courage, leadership and meritorious service.
