8th Street Reconstruction (Douglas Street to Jackson Street)

The City of Sioux City is continuing Downtown infrastructure improvements this summer with the reconstruction of 8th Street from Douglas Street to Jackson Street. Construction is anticipated to start on April 28, 2026, and will occur in multiple phases through the project area with the anticipated completion in October 2026.
The scope of this project includes removal of street paving and replacement of existing public utilities (storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main) throughout the project area. New water services will be replaced under the street and reconnected to existing service lines within the right-of-way. After utility improvements are completed, the street will be repaved, and the sidewalk will be reconstructed. Traffic signal modifications including the removal of signals at Pierce Street and 8th Street will be completed with the project. Additional street scaping with trees and colored concrete will also be done with the project
The project will be completed in 3 stages with a consistent project detour route along 7th Street during all stages. North/South traffic on Pierce Street and Nebraska Street will be maintained but will have lane restrictions. Pedestrian access will be maintained during all construction activities.
