FreeCycle Returns to Stony Brook at Seawolves Block Party

Stony Brook University's Office of Sustainability brought the FreeCycle program back to campus as part of this year's Seawolves Block Party, giving items collected at the end of the spring semester a second life with Stony Brook students.

The August 28 event on the Academic Mall drew approximately 250 students and diverted an estimated 2,050 pounds of materials from the waste stream, including clothing, household items and food.

By the event's end, nearly all materials had been redistributed, with a remaining box designated for donation.

The Seawolves Block Party, held by Student Engagement and Activities, combined two traditions, the Involvement Fair and Red Day, to showcase the spirit and pride of the campus community, with tables from university departments, clubs and organizations.
