Henley Bridge Shines Its Brightest Orange Yet

If you're downtown tonight (Friday, Sept. 12, 2025), celebrating a Vols weekend and savoring Saturday's University of Tennessee football showdown with arch-rival Georgia, be sure and take a glance at the Henley Bridge shortly after dusk.

The 180 Henley Bridge decorative deck lights will be subtly orange and white, as usual. But - for the first time - powerful new lighting will illuminate the undercarriage of the bridge in bold Vol orange.

"The last of the new lighting was installed this week - and what perfect timing!" Mayor Indya Kincannon said.

"We hope this dramatic new orange illumination over the Tennessee River, adjacent to Neyland Stadium, adds to the fun and rich traditions enjoyed by the best fans in college football.

"I know Georgia fans will be jealous of our amazing waterfront. And of course, I hope it will give our Vols an extra boost as they take on the Bulldogs Saturday."

New technology makes the vibrant Henley Bridge lighting possible. A year ago, the deck lightings were installed. This year, the new lights were installed to illuminate the bridge's below-deck pillars.

Most of the labor was done manually from the water up by the City Engineering Department's Signal Shop, with help from a Stansell Electric crew, who used a special truck with a bucket that could safely swing an electrician over and below the bridge deck. The total cost of the 2025 lighting project was about $75,000.
