Fort Worth Park & Recreation has been awarded a $1.5 million Urban Outdoor Grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to support the construction of Oak Grove Community Park.

Oak Grove Community Park, located in southeast Fort Worth on the corner of Oak Grove Road and Oak Grove Shelby Road, is a 67-acre property acquired by the City in November 2015.

The newly awarded 2026 TPWD Urban Outdoor Grant builds upon a prior $1.5 million TPWD grant awarded in 2025 and local matching funds to advance the full development of Oak Grove Community Park. Combined, these funding sources total approximately $6.5 million and will be bid and constructed together as a single, comprehensive park development project.

Planned features include additional paved and soft surface trails, nature areas, interpretive signage, pavilions, playgrounds, sports practice fields, sports courts and expanded parking. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall.

"We are thrilled to receive a second TPWD grant to expand the recreational opportunities at Oak Grove Park," said Joel McElhany, Park & Recreation assistant director. "This park will be a welcoming destination for families to explore, play and enjoy the outdoors for years to come."
