Emrullah Aydin, an R&D staff associate in the Vehicle Power Electronics Research group at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been elevated to senior member status in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, or IEEE.
Senior member status requires extensive experience that reflects professional accomplishments and is only attained by 10% of IEEE members.
At ORNL, Aydin's research focuses on electromagnetics for power electronics applications, such as in wireless power transfer systems. His expertise is in using software to develop 3D designs, modeling and simulation of magnetic systems and thermal analysis of power electronics and magnetics. Aydin's work in modeling and simulation, experimental tests, coil winding, and assembly supported ORNL's successful demonstration of the record-setting wireless power transfer of 270-kilowatts to a light-duty passenger vehicle.
Aydin joined ORNL in 2022 as a postdoctoral researcher and became a staff member in 2023. He earned his bachelor's in electrical engineering from Firat University in Turkey and his master's and doctorate in electrical engineering from Gazi University in Turkey.
UT-Battelle manages ORNL for the Department of Energy's Office of Science, the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the United States. The Office of Science is working to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time. For more information, please visit energy.gov/science.
